What I wanted to say

The main thing that has inspired me through this project was the idea of incorporating a keyhole, however through experimenting with the keyhole effect, I wanted it to appear more abstract, which was when I came across Tim Walkers photograph inspiring me to make the keyhole opaque. Throughout the project I wanted to do black and white photographs, as they give more of a mysterious appearance of the subject being watch, as well as most of the voyeuristic photographs inspiring me being black and white. I was initially stuck on what the story behind the key hole would be but then when researching into observation I began to think about what we are not exposed to and that people do not want to see and the fact that images can lie, which is where the idea of exposing an affair came from. For that reason I wanted the models to be unconnected, so I chose a very unlikely couple to photograph that could act in an intimate way, therefore convincing the viewer of a lie. The photographs were slightly blurred so as to give an effect of the observers view being obscured which is a technique often used in voyeurism.

Today

Today I simply mounted my photographs and wrote my statement, which was a lot harder than I thought it would be as I had so much to say.

Final Result

I felt that the experimental shoot went so well and they were particular photographs that depicted exactly what I wanted to portray and tell a story along the way.

How did I achieve it?

In order to achieve the keyhole effect in these photograph I took separate photograph of the keyhole template I made and then magnetic lassoed the inside in order to cut it out. I then pasted it on to each photograph and adjusted it so that it fitted. I then desaturated the images and played around with shadow and highlights till I got the effect I wanted. Finally I adjusted the opacity of the keyhole shape the get the desired result.

Experimental Photo Shoot

I decided to simply bite the bullet and test out how the photographs would look using the idea that I had and see if any decent photograph came out as a result. It was a huge challenge initially as my models were friend making it hard to act intimate however it shows that a picture can lie if taken in the right way, referring back to what I said earlier on this week. In these photograph I experimented with lighting, aperture and exposure in order to get the right effect and most of it a case of trial and error but all in all I felt it went rather well.

Idea Evolving

Now I have thought about taking the photographs in a more positive way my idea for more photograph is finely coming into focus and I finely have a grasp on a concept.

CONCEPT
My message that I want my images to portray is exposing the unexposed so they will feature a series of intimate photographs that will subtly develop into a discovered affair. I was initially undecided as to how I would subtle illustrate the idea of an affair being discovered but when looking into more voyeuristic styled photographs I saw that many portrayed the subject being watch through shadows and silhouettes which I though would be a great way of introducing that the couple is being watched by the partner.

EFFECTS
When looking closer at all of the photographs that have inspired me they all seem to me blurred or imperfect, as though the view of the subject is being obscured, which I thought would be the case when looking through a keyhole. Therefore I want to incorporate this slightly blurred and obscured effect in my photographs using a long exposure.

STYLING
The styling for the photo shoot will be very simple as I want to make the scene of the photograph seem as natural as possible but they shall wear grey black and white so as to enhance the tones in the black white photographs.

SETTING
Considering the story I want to depict the photo shoot will take place in my bedroom.

Uncertainty Over

After deliberating over what to take photographs of for my final images, I felt that nothing excited or inspired more than the idea of exposing an affair. Particularly after discussing it with Eve I felt that I needed to be more active about the situation and just take some photographs based on my idea and see how they pan out.

What do you consider to be your most private moments?

EXPLORING THE DAY IN THE LIFE OF IDEA A BIT

Here I took a photograph of my friend putting her make-up on to experiment with my initial idea of photographs to represent a day in the life of.
